Esther 4: 13, 14 “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone . . . will escape. For if you remain silent . . . , relief and deliverance . . . will arise from another place, but you . . . will perish.  And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?” (NIV)

God does not need me to do . . . things – he can use anybody.*

To paraphrase Mordecai’s words to Esther: “What have you got to lose? What’s the worst that could happen?” If she did nothing, she was going to die right along with the rest of the Jews. If she did something, she could still die – or she might not.

Esther had to step outside of her comfort zone in a big way and she didn’t do it without first fasting and praying. But would she have acted at all if Mordecai had decided it wasn’t his place to speak up? We could all use someone like Mordecai in our lives – to encourage us to do the right thing; to hold us accountable for our actions or our lack of action.

I have never “come to royal position” but I often find that I can be an instrument, chosen and used by God to fulfill his purpose in some small way. Each of us should prayerfully consider why God has placed opportunities for service in front of us and be careful not to ignore what might have been his purpose for our lives.

God has strategically placed us right where we are for this time in history according to His plan.*
